Join SSSC for an evening of dinner and dancing.
The 2014 Speed School Student Council Engineers’ Ball will be held on March 22 at the Frazier History Museum! Guests may arrive at 6:00 PM for a reception; dinner will be served at 7:00 PM. After dinner, the SSSC officers for the 2014/15 term will be sworn in, winners from E-Expo competitions will be recognized, and the W.S Speed Award recipient for 2014 will be revealed. Also, as the name ‘Engineers’ Ball‘ insinuates, there will be dancing! Tickets will go on sell at speedcouncil.org starting in March. Come celebrate Council, Speed School, and being an engineer!
Tyler Poteet – SSSC Director of Student Activities
Engineering Exposition (E-Expo) is an annual event held by Speed School Student Council where everyone, from elementary school students to adults, are invited to campus to discover the exciting opportunities for engineering at the University of Louisville. Tours of open labs, hands-on activities, competitions, and a Keynote speaker are meant to engage younger students into the joys of engineering. E-Expo’s main goal is to unite students, industry, and the community by inspiring innovation and ingenuity in the minds of future generations.

This year, E-Expo will be on Saturday March 1st, 2014 from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. The theme for this year is SPEEDing to the Next Frontier with a Keynote speaker from NASA coming. There will be a Rube Goldberg competition for elementary, middle, and high school students, Balsa Wood Bridge competition for elementary and high school students, and a Bottle Rocket competition for middle school students. Every engineering department will have open labs available for tours, and Speed School societies will hold hands-on activities for students to participate in throughout the day.
E-Expo doubled in size last year, and we expect it to continue to grow this year. Please join us in celebrating the opportunities in engineering by attending the event or volunteering to help out! For more information on the event, please visit engineering-expo.com and don’t hesitate to send any questions to email@example.com.
Students enjoy the Society Picnic on the steps of the JB Speed Building. Speed School Student Council sponsors this event and similar ones every semester.
The semester is well underway and Speed School Student Council has been busy helping the Speed School Class of 2017 get acclimated to campus and life as an engineering students. Speed School Student Council (SSSC) is a branch of the Student Government Association specifically for student in J.B. Speed School Students. Not only does student council sponsor and coordinate events like Engineers Ball and E-Expo, the student organization plans dozens of events and activities each semester focusing on involvement, friendship, and fun.
SSSC kicked the semester off with the annual Society Picnic which brings students and Speed School Student Organizations together for a recruiting fair. Over 500 students both new and old enjoyed a cookout on the JB Speed steps while networking with leaders of each of the organizations. The event offered students the opportunity to find major and career-oriented activities to get involved in across the Speed Campus.
Furthermore, SSSC sponsors a Freshman SSSC which allows the new campus leaders to hit the ground running in student leadership positions. The elections for the Freshman Council just wrapped up and it looks like they will do big things. Make sure you stay tuned to see what they have in store for their activities for this semester!
Lastly, SSSC is teaming up with the Speed School Alumni Council to sponsor a student and alumni BBQ as part of the homecoming week activities. Tentatively, the BBQ will be around the noon hour on the J.B. Speed steps on October 18th. The full details will be posted on the website next month!
Remember to find us on Facebook, follow us on twitter @ulsssc, and as always you can find more information on our website speedcouncil.org. If you would like to get involved, join us at our weekly General Body Meeting on Thursdays at 12:20 in J.B.100.
